#36 Enjoy Your Local Parks, scrapbook, 1984

Milton Keynes was designed with green space as a priority and today there are about 5000 acres of parkland, forest and waterways within the city’s limits. It is hardly surprising that in 1984 the Milton Keynes Development Corporation ran a summer programme of events to promote these parks to its new and growing population.

Document #36 is a scrapbook created by the Principal Local Recreation Promotion and Development Officer, working at Milton Keynes Development Corporation, containing posters of the “Enjoy your Local Parks, 1984” campaign, as well as photographs of many of the events held.

Events included a Circus Workshop with Rainbow Theatre at Fishermead; parachute games at Beanhill; a performance by the Great Horwood Silver Band at Fishermead; Hot Air Balloon ascents with local balloonist Fred Willmer at Fullers Slade and Kite Making Day at Furzton. Below is a picture of one of the more unusual events:  a facilitated play put on by local children called The Ballad of the Beggars, at Netherfield.
